Ancient Gold Jewellery In China
More than three thousand years of treasures belonging to the ancient Chinese civilisation from the Shang dynasty (approx.1500-1046 B.C.) to the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) will be on show to the public from 1 December 2022 to 14 April 2023, at “Ors et Tresors 3000 ans d’ornements chinois” the great exhibition organised by the well-known “École des Arts Joailliers” of Paris, founded in 2012 with the patronage of Van Cleef & Arpels. The precious artifacts are a selection of the treasures from the extraordinary private Mengdiexuan collection, dedicated to Chinese art and presented for the first time to the public in Europe by the École. Since the 5th millennium B.C. gold has played an essential symbolic and decorative role in China, inspiring skilled artisans to craft exquisite and meaningful creations.
