Ancient Gold Jewellery In China
55 objects in their cultural and technological context, inviting them to see themselves as “creator” and not only as spectator of the past. In a journey through the Chinese Empire that crosses Central Asia, the Eurasian steppes, Mongolia and the Himalayas, the exhibition route revolves around three great themes of gold jewellery. The first theme introduces a scientific and gemmological point of view on the material and properties of gold, by asking the primary questions: what is gold? where is it found? what type of gold is used for making jewels?
