T wo spectacular creations of the well-known London jeweller Laurence Graff (1938) have fetched selling prices which have well exceeded their estimated value, at the Bonhams’ auction “London Jewels” in London on 21 September 2022. One is a necklace with a Colombian emerald and diamonds sold for
£504,300 approx. $575,000, five times the pre-sale estimate, the other is a pair of pendant earrings with Colombian emeralds and diamonds sold for £208,200, approximately $247,500, four times the pre-sale price. The magnificent necklace, signed Graff, has a detachable drop of pear-shaped emerald, weighing 13.88 carats, suspended from a series of pear-shaped diamonds, of degraded dimensions towards the centre, with clasp in a similar shape; the diamonds amount to 32.70 carats. The necklace is accompanied by a Gübelin report which states that the emerald is of Colombian origin with a moderate improvement in clarity (oil and resin) and by a Gübelin report which states that the emerald has a gem valuation of 88.1 (excellent). As regards the earrings, signed Graff, each pear-shaped emerald, weighing 7.22 carats and 8.71 carats, is suspended from a similar shaped diamond, weighing 1.18 carats and 1.25 carats, by a brilliant-cut diamond thread; the brilliant-cut diamonds amount to approximately 1.5 carats. The earrings are accompanied by a Gübelin report which states that the emerald of 8.71 carats is of Colombian origin with a slight improvement in clarity (oil and resin) and a gem valuation of 86.8 (excellent).
