Jewels created using colourless gemstones, white gold, platinum and other precious metals that share the excellence of non-colour, namely white and black, hold a rightful place in the theory that opposites attract because
complementary. This type of jewel enjoys the advantage of not being submitted to the trend variations of bright colours, determined by fashion, but of maintaining a classic unchangeability over taste and time. Chinese philosophy states that opposite powers complete each other, so where there is light there is obscurity and where there is yin there is yang. The black represents “yin” which is associated with femininity, passivity, night, smoothness and coldness. The white is “yang”, which is connected to masculinity, light, dominion, strength and heat. The white has also been associated to purity, innocence and honesty, while the black has been associated to evil, death, obscurity, until fashion made it synonymous with elegance.
