He had the opportunity to watch a scene which changed his life forever, as he stated at the time: “Two trading brothers arrived in our office with a case full of large Brazilian stones, aquamarines, citrines, tourmalines, and rough amethysts in quantities which I had never seen before. I convinced my father-in-law to purchase the entire collection and I started to draw. This was the beginning of my career”. In 1951 Grima intensified his role as designer in the company, experimenting with different stones and the techniques of working metals. His love for art, together with his ability in technical drawing learnt at university, allowed him to express his creativity in truly modern and original ways. In 1961, his growing reputation as an innovative and daring designer led him to collaborate with the Exhibition of Modern Jewellery, managed by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths,
