THE MAGIC OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM
Beetles and butterflies are the small wonders of the natural world, made striking by the phenomenon of metamorphosis. A creature associated with the soul, the butterfly, in ancient Greek Psyche, in the transformation of the chrysalis simulates a metaphor for the departure of the soul from the body. Birds have been depicted in jewellery since antiquity, but their popularity grew during the 19th century together with the interest in birdwatching and ornithology, in Europe and in North America. In times of prosperity, parrots, kingfishers or peacocks fascinate us with their magnificent plumage; the peacock becomes a frequent subject in jewellery, not only for its dazzling colours, but also as a symbol of love and arrival of springtime.
