Designer MADDALENA ROCCO completes her studies at the Artistic High School and the Brera Fine Arts Academy of Milan and dedicates herself to the jewellery world, based on the training imprint received, instrumental to her personal “pictorial” vision in the way of imagining its design. Maddalena completes her goldsmith training in the workshop of maestro Rino Zanuttig, focusing on the technique of working with the burin, which becomes the cornerstone in her way of reinterpreting the engraved jewel, with a personal and contemporary compositional style. Through this ancient meditative technique, Maddalena reveals emblems which reflect her thoughts and migrate into different narrative furrows on the surface of the metal. They are glossy reflections furrowed by suspended signs, connected to the theme of the “Myth”, which in turn becomes a pretext for leading to a deep interior dialogue. Before every jewel dedicated to a “Myth”, Maddalena imagines a “narrative drawing”, a drawing which indicates and introduces the “thought of her soul”, a sort of “concept”. When she moves to the realisation of the real jewel, she draws from the symbolic imaginary of the chosen Myth, studies its emblems and shapes, then proceeds to balance the various elements, creating small sculptures in metal and ground stone which she arranges in an apparently casual manner. At the origin of her engravings, we often find attentive iconographic research, sometimes supported by photographs, which involve unusual compositional styles, compressed spaces or side views, which are then manually transferred to the slab of metal. In the shapes and materials each choice is thought out and meditated, nothing is left to chance. In the NYX project, goddess of night, the black horn represents the night sky studded with small stars in yellow gold. In the HYPNOS project, the god of sleep, the emblems are repeated and the materials engage in dialogue. The wings are in white or yellow gold and in ground ruby root. In the HELIOS project, the god of sun, mainstay of our system, source of light, colour and heat, has a helmet of rays which give off a dazzling light.
