“We are proud of our rich history in the Northern Cape, particularly in Kimberley, our native city. During this process, we have greatly committed ourselves to support the needs of our employees and their families.
We have also committed ourselves to our suppliers, business partners, organisations benefiting from corporate social investments and to provincial and local government. We are grateful to our trade union, the miners’ national union, which has been involved and supportive in the moving process. Our goal was to ensure that the move and commitment would be conducted transparently and responsibly, in line with our business values of “Show We Care” and “Pull Together”. A press release has reported that De Beers continues to offer support to its employees during this transition period offering three months of provisional lodging in Johannesburg,
as well as facilitating school placement of the children of employees at the Department of basic education of Gauteng.
De Beers will continue to work with the government, the key parties involved and community organisations to invest in the socio-economic development of the Northern Cape. For the next five years, the company will invest close to
43 million rand in the province through sustainable projects in basic and tertiary training, health assistance and business assistance and development, as can be read in the declaration.
