La mostra evidenzia il percorso in costante progresso degli artisti contemporanei giapponesi negli ultimi 50 anni, caratterizzato da una combinazione di elementi di arte, artigianato e design innovativi e tradizionali. Si è diversificata inoltre la tipologia degli artisti a partire dal genere, che ha visto la presenza dell’elemento femminile in discipline artistiche storicamente dominate dagli uomini. Il design contemporaneo giapponese è attualmente rappresentato in modo paritario da artisti femminili e maschili. L’oggetto di maggior richiamo fra quelli in mostra è “A Large Pine Tree Pool” di Hitomi Hosono, una ciotola scultorea in porcellana con complessi intagli a mano, realizzata nel 2019, oltre al complesso “New Pinecone Silver Organism” di Junko Mori e agli ornamenti colorati per il corpo, del gioielliere Suo Emiko.
The exhibition highlights the constantly advancing journey of contemporary Japanese artists in the last 50 years, characterised by a combination of elements of art, craftsmanship and innovative and traditional designs. The type of artists has also changed, starting with gender, with females in artistic disciplines historically dominated by males. Contemporary Japanese design is currently equally represented by female and male artists. The most attractive exhibit is “A Large Pine Tree Pool” by Hitomi Hosono, a sculpted bowl in porcelain with complex handmade carvings, produced in 2019, as well as the “New Pinecone Silver Organism” by Junko Mori and the coloured body ornaments, by the jeweller Suo Emiko.

Per la prima volta al di fuori dei musei dell'Uzbekistan, si possono ammirare all’IMA, su un percorso di oltre 1100 mq, i tesori dell'artigianato costitutivi dell'identità uzbeka, circa 300 esemplari rappresentati da cappotti chapan e accessori ricamati in oro della corte dell'Emiro, selle in legno dipinto, finimenti per cavalli in argento tempestati di turchesi, preziosi arazzi ricamati suzanis, tappeti, ikat di seta, gioielli e costumi della cultura nomade, oltre a una quindicina di dipinti orientalisti. Gli splendori artigianali realizzati tra il XIX e l’inizio del XX secolo ci fanno partecipi della storia e del saper fare ancestrale di un Paese che è crogiolo di civiltà millenarie. Il ricamo in oro di Bukhara, in particolare, occupa un posto speciale tra le tante forme d'arte dell'Uzbekistan.
For the first time outside the museums of Uzbekistan, the treasures of Uzbek craftsmanship will be on show in an exhibition occupying more than 1100 m2 at the IMA. The 300 exhibits include chapan coats and gold embroidered accessories of the court of the Emir, saddles in painted wood, silver horse harnesses studded with turquoise, precious embroidered tapestries suzanis, rugs, silk ikats, jewels and costumes of the nomadic culture, as well as more than fifteen Orientalist paintings. The artisan splendours realised between the 19th and early 20th century make us partakers of the history and ancestral know- how of a country which is the melting pot of thousand-year-old civilisations. The gold embroidery of Bukhara occupies a special place between the many art forms of Uzbekistan.
