Sir Elton Hercules John, CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), was born on 25 March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, England, with the name of Reginald Kenneth Dwight. At age 11, he had already received his first scholarship as junior exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Music and starts to attend the Academy every Saturday for the next four years. In a short time, he reaches and consolidates his fame as the most successful solo singer in the history of the American charts, preceded only by Madonna and the Beatles. He holds the record for the highest selling single of all time, Candle in the Wind of 1997, which has sold more than 33 million copies. Since he launched his first tour in 1970, Elton has more than 4,000 performances to his credit in more than 80 countries.
