Elton received 4 Oscar nominations (won in 1995 and in 2020) and one Tony Award (with 4 nominations) for the best original soundtrack for Aida, by Elton John and Tim Rice, in 2000. In 2002, he was conferred with an honorary doctorate from the Royal Academy of Music and became a member of the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers in 2004.
