BUCKLE COLLECTION
large and geometric buckles in bakelite of the Deco era, passing through the masterpieces of goldsmithery to the sinuous buckles with naturalistic shapes of Art Nouveau. “Buckles are real functional jewels, for centuries produced and presented
to match buttons and necklaces, but also bracelets, earrings and brooches. They
were chosen based on the outfit and occasion, on the fabric and model of the garment, but also on the message it was intended to communicate. The most prestigious jewellers, like the great bijou dealers, have produced pieces of great creativity with the most varied materials,
both precious and poor, buckles which still ‘speak’ of the flair and
technology of the moment”, explains Bianca Cappello, jewel historian and
curator of the exhibition. In this context it is possible to admire the historic buckles preserved in the Museum. “A unique opportunity to admire pieces of highest value, but also to enhance the original, magnificent and curious buckles of our museum heritage”, declares Letizia Frigerio, curator of the Bijou Museum of Casalmaggiore.
