THE ALLURE OF MYSTERY
wife, the American divorcee Wallis Simpson. The oversize piece features two leaves: a sparkling one of diamonds and another undulating one with rubies. Another example of great mastery of the technique can be seen in a peony brooch, created in 1937, decorated with diamond leaves set in a lush ruby flower with petals that bend and rotate at various angles. Other floral subjects were used in the 1960s, as can be observed in one of the classics of the Maison, the Anemone and Feuille de Marronnier (chestnut leaf) brooches, formed by petals in rubies and sapphires set and balanced at the centre by diamonds.
