Da oltre 50 anni l'Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) ha favorito la creazione di un ambiente in cui gli artisti indigeni emergenti hanno avuto la libertà di sviluppare i mezzi per raccontare le proprie storie. La particolare tipologia dei gioielli creati ha svolto un ruolo importante nella narrazione, in quanto offre alle persone gli strumenti per narrare le proprie storie e identità. “Le Storie che noi portiamo” presenta gioielli contemporanei creati da oltre 100 artisti indigeni nel corso dei decenni, custoditi nella collezione permanente del Museo delle arti native contemporanee dell'IAIA. Nel 2022, l'Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) ha festeggiato il suo 60° anniversario, in concomitanza con l'IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA), che ha celebrato il suo 50° anniversario di vita culturale.
For more than 50 years, the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) has promoted an environment in which indigenous emerging artists have had the freedom to develop the means to tell their stories. The type of jewels created has played an important role in the narration, as it offers people the tools to tell their stories and identity. “The Stories we carry” presents contemporary jewels created by more than 100 indigenous artists over the decades, preserved in the permanent collection of the Museum of contemporary native arts of the IAIA. In 2022, the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) celebrated its 60th anniversary, at the same time as the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA), which celebrated its 50th anniversary of cultural life.

La mostra espone diversi tipi di gioielli realizzati e indossati nelle molte aree del mondo musulmano, con l’intento di dare uno sguardo a una tradizione artistica islamica incredibilmente ricca ma relativamente sconosciuta, mettendo in evidenza i libri d'arte splendidamente illustrati della collezione della Biblioteca di studi islamici. I gioielli sono tra le più antiche forme di arte decorativa nelle società musulmane, con una lunga e profonda storia in diverse parti del mondo islamico. Le tecniche e gli stili di fabbricazione dei gioielli islamici rispecchiano le tradizioni artistiche
preislamiche e locali (faraoniche, greche, bizantine). Le tipologie dei gioielli includevano ornamenti personali,come ostentazione di ricchezza nella gerarchia sociale, e amuleti e talismani come protezione individuale.
The exhibition puts on show different types of jewels made and worn in the many areas of the Muslim world, with the intent of showing an incredibly rich but relatively unknown Islamic artistic tradition, highlighting the magnificently illustrated art books of the collection of the Islamic studies Library. Jewels are among the oldest forms of decorative art in Muslim society, with a long and deep history in different parts of the Islamic world. The techniques and the style of production of Islamic jewels reflect the pre- Islamic and local artistic traditions (Pharaonic, Greek, Byzantine). The types of jewels included personal ornaments, as an ostentatious display of wealth in the social hierarchy, and amulets and talismans for personal protection.
