The colours of quartz
designs. A well-known example is a pair of Belperron bangle bracelets
owned by the Duchess of Windsor, characterised by a nuance of soft
blue chalcedony called “Blue Wallis.” The contemporary jeweller JAR is
inspired by chalcedony, exploiting its infinite variations in colour, translucency and texture. The origins of quartz are lost in the mists of time, evidenced by prehistoric finds in the form of objects of everyday use and war activities, such as knives, axes, cutting tools and tips for arrows and spears, as well as jewels, pendants and precious amulets of various kind also used during religious ceremonies. The quality of transparency of some varieties of mineral, led the ancient Greeks to call it “krystallos,” meaning like ice, but equipped with solidity and impenetrability. Other ancient legends also attribute magical and therapeutic properties to it; in the case of rutilated quartz even the ability to slow down the ageing process. The great spread of quartz and its worldwide extraction make it one of the key elements that make up many types
