“Moonlight Rose” bracelet
LUXURY ART
The exceptional jewellery collection of Anne Eisenhower, interior designer and granddaughter of the President Dwight D. Eisenhower, will go under the hammer on 7 June 2023 during Christie’s Luxury Week in New York, in the section “Magnificent Jewels”. The auction house will preview the collection in
Los Angeles, Paris, Geneva, Hong Kong and New York and offer further items belonging to Anne Eisenhower in its online jewellery sale, open for bids between 30 May and 8 June. Anne Eisenhower’s prestigious collection of 30 pieces features the “four great gemstones”: diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds, as well as exceptional historical and contemporary jewels. Nevertheless, the undisputed star is the ruby and diamond bracelet “Jarretière” by Van Cleef & Arpels purchased in 1937 by Marlene Dietrich, who wore it in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1950s film, “Stage Fright”, and at the 1951 Academy Awards. In turn, Eisenhower purchased the bracelet directly from Marlene Dietrich in 1992, giving the jewel a dual and authoritative origin. After the purchase, the collector contacted Van Cleef & Arpels to have matching necklace and earrings made. All three works are presented in a dedicated room, together with other contemporary creations purchased directly by the jewellery house. The favourites of Lisa Hubbard, Senior Adviser of Christie’s Jewellery, include a necklace and earring set “Waterfall” with sapphires and diamonds, by Van Cleef & Arpels. Another historical high point of the collection is the “Moonlight Rose” bracelet dated around 1925, with diamonds and multiple gems by Tiffany & Co., characterised by an extremely rare pictorial drawing.
