outside of their usual home, allows a larger public to appreciate their exquisite quality and the variety of the materials used. The exhibition investigates the history of the Castellani family and
its goldsmithing workshop, which launches the fashion of antique jewellery, but above all its extraordinary collection gathered over the years and partly donated to the Museum
of Villa Giulia in 1919, and in part to museums around the world. The over eighty finds from Rome are on show alongside the permanent collection of the Etruscan Art Museum of Milan in a process of fusion which is an intrinsic element of the exhibition method of the Foundation. The exhibition route comprises six sections: masterpieces, Mediterranean productions, female life, jewellery, Gods and heroes and the Castellani family. The exhibition has received the Medal of Representation of the President of the Italian Republic, a prestigious acknowledgement attributed to initiatives of cultural, scientific, artistic, sporting or social importance.

Nelle due pagine al centro: collana in oro con perle di lapislazzuli intervallate da motivi a volute, accentuati da perline, circa 1875 (Ph. Sotheby’s); al centro della collana: un paio di orecchini, ciascuno con motivo a rosetta in oro giallo a cui è sospeso un cigno in smalto bianco e quattro catenelle in oro e smalto turchese (Ph. Christie’s).

Above: brooch with cameo in rose and cream agate, carved in high relief with the profile of Dionisis, mounted in gold with decorated baton, the cameo signed A. Mastini, circa 1880. (Ph. Sotheby’s). In the two pages at the centre: gold necklace with lapis lazuli pearls interspersed by swirl motifs, accented by pearls, circa 1875 (Ph. Sotheby’s); at the centre of the necklace: a pair of earrings, each with rosette motif in yellow gold from which is hanging a swan in white enamel and four chains in gold and turquoise enamel (Ph. Christie’s).
