E’ stato presentato, nel corso dell’ultima edizione di Vicenzaoro di settembre, il libro “Lungo le Vie del Corallo”, di Antonino De Simone (1931-2010), in occasione del 190° anniversario dell’omonima antica impresa del corallo di Torre del Greco. Frutto di una vita dedicata alla scoperta delle “vie del corallo” , il libro propone un excursus storico e antropologico delle oltre 300 manifatture in corallo oggetto della collezione museale. L’incontro è stato aperto da Gioia De Simone, attualmente alla guida dell’azienda, alla presenza di Vincenzo Aucella, Presidente Assocoral e di Camilla Cielo, Presidente del Gruppo Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria Vicenza, con l’accompagnamento di Cristina Del Mare, etnologa e curatrice del libro, e Bianca Cappello, storica del gioiello. Il catalogo propone un viaggio ‘lungo le vie del corallo’ che, dalle sponde dell’Occidente mediterraneo, con Torre del Greco protagonista, giunge fino all’Oriente e oltre l’Oceano, fino alle coste americane, in un percorso dedicato al corallo, un elemento prodigioso che unisce civiltà, storie e genti. I testi rigorosi e le illustrazioni di tutte le opere, offrono agli addetti ai lavori e agli appassionati una lettura storica e antropologica delle manifatture in corallo - monili, oggetti di uso quotidiano e rituale, opere artistiche - realizzati con il prezioso materiale dal XVI al XX secolo.

“Lungo le Vie del Corallo” (Along the Coral Routes) by Antonino De Simone (1931-2010) was
presented during the last September edition of Vicenzaoro, on the 190th anniversary of the
homonymous age-old coral business of Torre del Greco. Result of a life dedicated to the discovery
of the “coral routes”, the book presents a historical and anthropological excursus of more than 300
artefacts in coral which are the object of the museum collection. The meeting was opened by Gioia
De Simone, currently at the helm of the company, in the presence of Vincenzo Aucella, President of
Assocoral and Camilla Cielo, President of Gruppo Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria Vicenza,
accompanied by Cristina Del Mare, ethnologist and curator of the book and Bianca Cappello,
jewellery historian. The catalogue presents a journey ‘along the coral routes’ which from the banks
of the Western Mediterranean with Torre del Greco as the protagonist, reaches as far as the Orient
and beyond the Ocean, to the American coasts, on a route dedicated to coral, a prodigious element
which joins civilisations, histories, and people. The rigorous texts and the illustrations of all the works offer industry insiders and enthusiasts an historic and anthropological reading of the artefacts made in coral - jewels, objects of everyday use and ritual use, artistic works - realised with the precious material from the 16th century to the 20th century.
