 Cocktail Rings
are still loved today, worn by celebrities like Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Blake Lively and Tilda Swinton, fascinated by their history begun more than a century ago. Prohibition historically ends in 1933, by Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s decision, which promotes the “Repeal” and the abolition of the restrictions on alcohol. Women can free themselves from the prohibitions and exhibit their desire for freedom, leisure and elegance. The cocktail ring reaches the apex of its popularity between the 1950s and 1960s. It becomes a common fashion accessory among women, a jewel worn on all social occasions, from cocktail parties to gala evenings and to the opera. The cocktail ring goes out of fashion in the 1960s and 1970s and re-emerges in the 1980s. In fact, in the decade of hedonism and the desire to appear, women begin to see rings as accessories to wear during the day and evening. Voluminous hairstyles and “gender fluid” lines, see the cocktail rings return in great style, from then to now.
