La Collezione Al Thani presenta per la prima volta a Parigi, all'Hôtel de la Marine, più di 70 singolari capolavori dell'arte medievale, evidenziando il rapporto complesso e interdipendente dell'Inghilterra e dell'Europa continentale durante il Medioevo. I manufatti provengono dalla rinomata collezione di arte medievale del Victoria and Albert Museum, una delle più complete al mondo, che comprende straordinari reperti dell’epoca, realizzati in Inghilterra, Francia, Italia e altre nazioni. In mostra figurano sculture, tessuti, ceramiche, avori, manoscritti, lavori in metallo, gioielli, vetri smaltati e colorati, nonché molte delle opere d'arte più straordinarie del Victoria and Albert Museum, tra cui il candeliere di Gloucester, lo scrigno di Becket, la Casula di Clare e la Fortuna di Edenhall.
The Al Thani Collection presents more than 70 one-off masterpieces of medieval art for the first time in Paris, at the Hôtel de la Marine, highlighting the complex and interdependent relationship between England and Continental Europe during the Middle Ages. The artefacts originate from the renowned medieval art collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, one of the most complete in the world, which includes extraordinary artefacts of the time, crafted in England, France, Italy and other countries. The exhibits on show include sculptures, fabrics, ceramics, ivories, manuscripts, metal works, jewels, enamelled and coloured glass, as well as many of the most extraordinary works of the Victoria and Albert Museum, including the Gloucester Candlestick, the Becket Casket, the Clare Chasuble and the Luck of Edenhall.

La mostra, i cui contenuti provengono dalla collezione museale del RAM, celebra la gioielleria contemporanea, enfatizzandone l’aspetto visto da nuove angolazioni. I designers orafi d'arte contemporanea, coloro che realizzano gioielli a mano, mentre intraprendono esplorazioni concettuali, hanno necessariamente una visione complessiva della composizione, che comprende i materiali, le chiusure e la relazione tra l'oggetto e chi li indossa. L’interpretazione può quindi essere letterale: alcune spille, ad esempio, sono visualizzate in modo da focalizzare l'attenzione sul retro piuttosto che sul davanti, mentre la parte posteriore di un gioiello può trarre vantaggio dal fatto che è il lato con cui chi lo indossa interagisce e quindi consentire l’aggiunta di un’iscrizione o di un altro elemento visivo.
The exhibition, which puts on show items from the RAM museum collection, celebrates contemporary jewellery, emphasising its appearance viewed from new angles. Contemporary art goldsmith designers, those who craft jewels by hand, while undertaking conceptual explorations, necessarily have an overall view of the composition, which includes the materials, the clasps and the relationship between object and wearer. The interpretation can be literal; some brooches, for example, are viewed so that the attention is focused on the rear rather than on the front, while the back of a jewel can take advantage of the fact that it is the side with which the wearer interacts and therefore allows the addition of an inscription or another visual element..
