Fra le più importanti collezioni del Museo di Kedleston Hall nel Derbyshire, figurano le raccolte donate da George Curzon, vicerè dell'India dal 1899 al 1905, che, durante la sua permanenza nell'Asia meridionale, aveva accumulato migliaia di manufatti di varia provenienza. Una di queste collezioni costituisce la base della mostra "My Adornment Is My Power", curata dall'artigiana asiatica britannica Anisha Parmar, la cui omonima linea di gioielli ne ha tratto ispirazione. Si tratta di un'esposizione ricontestualizzata di esemplari della collezione di Curzon, accompagnati dai disegni di Anisha e dal film Shakti (potere in sanscrito), in cui la ballerina Kesha Raithatha si esibisce con musica e parole del duo Grewal Twins; sono anche esposte in mostra fotografie di Kesha abbigliata con gioielli della collezione, mai indossati da 100 anni.
The most important collections of the Kedleston Hall Museum in Derbyshire include items donated by George Curzon, Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905, who accumulated thousands of artefacts of varying origin during his stay in south Asia. One of these collections forms the basis of the exhibition “My Adornment is My Power” curated by the British Asian artisan Anisha Parmar, whose homonymous line of jewellery was inspired by it. It is a recontextualised showcase of items of the Curzon collection, accompanied by Anisha’s drawings and by the film Shakti (meaning power in Sanskrit), in which the ballerina Kesha Raithatha exhibits herself with music and words of the duo Grewal Twins; the exhibition also displays photographs of Kesha wearing jewels of the collection, which have never been worn in 100 years.
